Detailed Solution

By 1914, women accounted for 31 percent of factory workers, although they were paid less than men (between half and three-quarters of a man's income). Workers were a socially divided group. Workplace divisions manifested themselves in attire and etiquette as well. Some employees organised groups to assist one another in times of unemployment or financial distress, but these groups were infrequent. Despite their differences, workers came together to strike (call a halt to work) when they disagreed with their bosses regarding dismissals or working conditions.
