The pastoralists of Pir Panjal are predominantly Muslim and practise nomadic pastoralism. Pastoralists from Jammu and Kashmir, known as pir panjal, have raised cattle, buffaloes, sheep, goats, camels, and horses for generations. Because their main occupation is herding, they sell their herd for money to survive and provide good grazing for the animals. They also sell milk and wool to supplement their animals.
