Detailed Solution

By selling 36 oranges, a vendor suffers a loss equal to the selling price of 4 oranges, then his loss percent will be 10%.
We have the following formulas,
S.P=selling price.
C.P=cost price.
Gain=S.P-C.P
Gain%= S.PC.P C.P ×100
Loss=C.P-S.P
Loss%= C.PS.P C.P ×100   Let the C.P of one orange be a.
C.P of 36 oranges =36a.
Let S.P of one orange be ₹b.
S.P of 36 oranges=36b.
To find the loss,
4b=36a36b 4b+36b=36a 40b=36a b= 9 10 a
Therefore, loss percentage is,
= 4b 36a ×100 = 4 36a × 9a 10 ×100 =10%   The loss percentage is 10%.
