By selling 8 dozen pencils, a shopkeeper gains the selling price of one dozen pencils, then his gain percent will be 14.28%.
Let the C.P of one pencil be ‘a’.
C.P of 96 pencils =96a.
Let S.P of one pencil be b.
Then S.P of 12 pencils is 12b and S.P of 96 pencils is 96 b.
We know that,
S.P. = C.P. + Gain
Therefore,
S.P. of 96 pencils = C.P. of 96 pencils+ S.P. of 12 pencils

⇒ 96 b = 96 a + 12 b ⇒ 96 a = 96 b − 12 b ⇒ 96 a = 84 b ⇒ a = 8496 b

We have the following formula,

Gain % = S . P − C . P C . P × 100

= 12 b 96 a × 100 = 12 b 96 × 96 84 b × 100 = 14.28 %

The gain in percentage is 14.28%.
