Detailed Solution

By the 1730s, the Maratha king was recognised as the overlord of the entire Deccan peninsula. He possessed the right to levy Chauth and sardeshmukhi in the entire region. Chauth is 25% of the land revenue claimed by zamindars. The Marathas of the Deccan gathered this. In Sardeshmukhi, the head revenue collector in the Deccan receives 9–10% of the land revenue. Between 1720 and 1761, the Maratha empire grew in size. It drastically weakened the Mughal Empire's authority. Malwa and Gujarat had achieved independence from the Mughals by the 1720s. By the 1730s, the entire Deccan peninsula was under the Maratha ruler's power. He had the authority to tax Chauth and Sardeshmukhi across the entire region.
