Detailed Solution
With 100 marks in JEE Main 2025, your chances of getting a seat in an NIT depend on several factors, including your category, the branch you are targeting, and whether you have a home state quota.
General Category
- For General category candidates, a score of 100 typically translates to a percentile between 70 and 73 and an All India Rank (AIR) between 2.2 to 2.5 lakhs.
- The cutoff percentile for General category this year is 93.10, which usually corresponds to a higher score than 100 marks. Most NITs, especially for popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics, require a much higher rank and percentile.
- Admission is very unlikely for General category students with 100 marks, especially under the Other State quota1. You may not clear the qualifying cutoff for most NITs.
Reserved Categories (OBC, SC, ST, EWS)
- OBC: The cutoff percentile is 79.43. With 100 marks, if you have a home state quota and target less competitive branches (e.g., Civil, Chemical, Metallurgical), you may have a chance in some of the newer or northeast NITs like NIT Mizoram or NIT Nagaland.
- SC/ST: The cutoff percentiles are 61.15 (SC) and 47.90 (ST).Chances are much better for SC/ST candidates, especially with a home state quota or for core/less popular branches. NITs in the northeast (e.g., NIT Sikkim, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, NIT Agartala, NIT Manipur) often admit students with lower ranks in later rounds.
- EWS: The cutoff is 80.38. Similar to OBC, you may have a chance in less preferred branches or newer NITs, especially with a home state quota.
Branch and Institute Considerations
- Popular branches like Computer Science or Electronics are generally not accessible with 100 marks, even in newer NITs.
- Less competitive branches (Civil, Chemical, Metallurgy, Biotechnology, etc.) in newer or northeast NITs may be possible for reserved categories and, in rare cases, for General (home state) students.
Special Rounds
- CSAB Special Rounds: If seats remain vacant after JoSAA counselling, CSAB special rounds offer another opportunity, often with lower cutoffs for less popular branches and newer NITs.
