“Cannizzaro reaction is base-induced disproportionation of two molecules of a non-ionizable aldehyde to yield a carboxylic acid and a primary alcohol. These reactions are those in which aldehyde having absence of α- hydrogen atom on treatment with NaOH give oxidation and reduction products one of which is salt of carboxylic acid and other is alcohol.
