Cardiac output is the volume of blood ejected from each ventricle each minute. Cardiac output equals the stroke volume (the volume of blood ejected by the ventricle during each contraction) multiplied by the heart rate (the number of heartbeats per minute).

Cardiac output = stroke volume x heart rate

Stroke volume = end diastolic volume – end systolic volume
