The Carnatic War, also known as the Anglo-French conflict, was fought between the French and British. It was an instance of Anglo-French rivalry. This conflict was started by the colonial dispute over possessions in North America, and the rivalry became strong in India as they were competitors with each other in trading. The treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle and the treaty of Pondicherry were signed between them. Pondicherry was captured by the Britishers in this war but returned to the French after the treaty of Paris in 1763.
