Cattle or goats do not browse on Calotropis because it produces

Calotropis is a weed that grows in abandoned fields. The plant generates highly deadly cardiac glycosides. This is why no cattle or goats are ever seen nibbling on it. Plants generate a vast range of chemical substances that we extract on a commercial scale (nicotine, caffeine, quinine, strychnine, opium, and so on) as a defence mechanism against grazers and browsers. Many plants produce and store chemicals that inhibit feeding or digestion and disrupt reproduction in herbivores. These can also make them sick or even kill them when consumed.
