Detailed Solution

Central provinces under the Mughals were called Subas.
Abul Fazl in his Ain-i-Akbari explains that the Mughal Empire was divided into central provinces known as the subas and were governed by an officer called the subadar. Subadar had political and military functions that they had to fulfil. A financial officer, or diwan, was employed by every province. The subadar was assisted by other officers such as the military paymaster or bakhshi, the minister in charge of religious and charitable patronage or sadr, military commanders or faujdars, and the town police commander or kotwal to maintain peace and order in his region. The empire was divided into twelve subas by Akbar.
