Chandrayan-2 is the India's first lunar probe.

The notion of sending an Indian research expedition to the moon was first proposed by the Indian Academy of Sciences in 1999. A conversation with the Astronautical Society of India was held in 2000 as a result of this endeavor. The Indian Space Research Organization established a National Lunar Mission Task Force in response to the proposals (ISRO). After that, on October 22, 2008, the Satish Dhawan Space Center in Srihari Kota, Andhra Pradesh, launched Chandrayaan-1, India's maiden lunar mission.

After Chandrayan 1's success, Chandrayan 2 is India's second lunar mission. In order to comprehend the genesis and development of the Moon, topographical investigations and mineralogical studies were done as part of this mission. The GSLV Mk III-M1 launched the Chandrayan 2 Mission on July 22, 2019, from the Satish Dhawan Space. The primary objective of Chandrayan 2 was to identify where and how much lunar water there existed on the moon's surface.

Chandrayaan-1 was the first Indian lunar probe under the Chandrayan program. It was launched by the Indian Space Research Organization in October 2008 and operated until August 2009. The mission included a lunar orbiter and an impactor.
