Detailed Solution

Changing party allegiance from the party on which a person got elected to a different party is known as defection.
To prevent elected MLAs and MPs from switching parties, Anti Defection Law was passed, and the Constitution was amended in 1985. This was carried out because numerous elected officials engaged in defection to become ministers or receive financial compensation. Defection is when a person switches from supporting the party they were elected to another party. According to current legislation, any MLA or MP who changes parties will forfeit their position in the legislature. Defection has decreased thanks to this new regulation. Nevertheless, this has made dissenting even more challenging. MPs and MLAs must accept the decisions made by the party leaders.
