The British came to India, as the other foreign countries came, for trading because, at that time, India was abundant and full of varieties in food materials and textiles. Like the Portuguese, the British also came to India for trade. They used to purchase goods like spices and textiles and export these to Europe, where they sold them at a high price. In European countries, cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon were very popular and in high demand. Then the British requested concession in duty tax and started fortifying, gradually capturing Bengal and then the whole of India by their annexation policies.
