Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
In 1801, a subsidiary alliance was imposed on Awadh.
One of the last territories to be acquired was Awadh. A subsidiary alliance was forced on Awadh in 1801 and was taken over in 1856. The territory was misgoverned, according to Governor-General Dalhousie, and British rule was required to establish an effective administration. The company even began to plot ways to topple the Mughal dynasty. The name of the Mughal ruler was erased from the company's coinage. In 1849, Governor-General Dalhousie stated that upon the death of Bahadur Shah Zafar, the king's family would be relocated from the Red Fort to another location in Delhi. Governor-General Canning decided in 1856 that Bahadur Shah Zafar would be the last Mughal Emperor and, after his death, none of his descendants would be recognised as kings – they would just be called princes.
