The French Revolution occurred in 1789 after the monarch refused to accept democratic principles. After this, the National Assembly drafted the constitution for the French people. However, this constitution of 1791 gave rights only to the wealthier sections of society, especially political rights. Thus, people continued the revolution to demand equal rights for all, irrespective of rich or poor. In light of this, many political clubs, which discussed government policies, became necessary. Important among them was the Jacobins club, which Maximilian Robespierre formed. The club members mainly belonged to the less privileged classes of shopkeepers, shoemakers, etc.
