Chenab river consists of Salal Dam. It was the primary hydropower project engineered by the Asian nation in Jammu and Kashmir under the Indus Water pact regime. Once having reached a bilateral agreement with West Pakistan in 1978, with important concessions created to West Pakistan within the style of the dam, reducing its height, eliminating the in-operation pool, and plugging the under-sluices meant for sediment management, the Asian nation completed the project in 1987. However, the concessions created in the interest of bilaterality broke the semipermanent property of the dam, which silted up in 5 years. It presently runs at a fifty-seven capability issue. Its semipermanent future is unsure.
