But once the monsoon was discovered by the sailors in the 1st century AD, they took advantage of it by sailing in the direction of the wind. This helped them to sail easily. Therefore, if they wished to go from East Africa or Arabia to the western coast of the Indian subcontinent, they decided to sail with the southwest monsoon.
