Soon after, Bengal's economic condition began to fall for many reasons. The first reason was the money-minded policy of the Company. They imposed high taxes on the peasants, artisans, etc. The worst was the flood of 1770 in Bengal. Almost 10 million people were killed. All these affected people didn't get any help from the British administration, and on top of that, they were burdened with heavy taxes and low pay, which made it difficult to get a day's meals. Because of this, many left Bengal.
