Before the 15th century, the kind of print technology used was a system of hand printing. On palm leaves or with handmade paper, manuscripts were copied. They were either pushed inside wooden covers or bound together with threads to maintain preservation. Manuscripts were still being produced well into the nineteenth century, after the invention of print. Because the script was written in many styles, it needed to be treated carefully and could not be easily understood. Thus, there was little widespread use of manuscripts in daily life.
