Unlike some other Harappan cities, which were divided into two parts, Dholavira was divided into three parts, each part surrounded by a huge stone wall with an entrance through the gate. The village also had a large open area where ceremonies were held. An important discovery from Dholavira includes large letters of the Harappan script, carved from white stone and probably inlaid on wood. This was a unique discovery, as the characters of Harappan are commonly found on small objects such as seals.
