The khadi cloth was more expensive in comparison with the mass-produced mill cloth, and poor people were not able to afford this khadi cloth. There was no alternative for the goods that were advocated to be boycotted by the Indians. For the movement's success, alternative Indian institutions had to be set up to boycott British goods. But these were slow to come up, so the people had to go back to their former professions and colonial institutions. As a result, the movement slowly died down.
