Fourteen years after Humayun's death, in 1569–1570, Bega Begum (Hajji Begum), the widow of Humayun, spent 1.5 million rupees to construct his tomb. There are roughly 150 burials, which were later used to bury various members of the ruling family. Thus Mughal Emperor Humayun is buried in Delhi at his tomb, known as Humayun's tomb. The design mausoleum was created by Persian architect Mirak Mirza Ghiyas and his son Sayyid Muhammad, whom Empress Bega Begum chose.
