In 1929, the Congress session was held in the city of Lahore. This session was important as the Indian National Congress took the resolution of Poorna Swaraj for complete independence. Thus, the Indian flag was hoisted by Pandit Jawahar Lal on the bank of the River Ravi. The Congress convention began in the city in December 1929, and Pandit Nehru was the president of the session. He mentioned during this session that “there’s just one goal sooner than us, that is full freedom”. The declaration of Purna Swaraj was propagated at the Indian National Congress on the 19th of December 1929. During this session, members agreed that the Congress and Indian nationalists ought to fight for Purna Swaraj or that they ought to rule entirely severally. Thus the nationalists unfurled the flag. Congress, therefore, declared to celebrate 26th January 1930 as Independence or Purna Swaraj Day.
