Detailed Solution

The above statement is true.
Kathak is derived from Katha, a word for story in Sanskrit and other languages. Originally, the kathaks were a caste of storytellers in north Indian temples who embellished their performances with gestures and songs. With the spread of the Bhakti movement in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, Kathak began to evolve into a distinct mode of dance. Radha-Krishna legends were enacted in Rasa Lila folk plays, which combined folk dance with the basic gestures of kathak storytellers. Kathak was performed at the Mughal emperors' and their nobles' courts, where it acquired its modern traits and became a distinctive dance form. Under Wajid Ali Shah's patronage, the last Nawab of Awadh, it developed into a significant art form.
