For instance, Nana Saheb, Peshwa Baji Rao II's adopted son, begged to receive his father's pension after the latter passed away. However, the Company ignored these requests since it was sure of its strength and military might. Armed forces were recruited by Nana Saheb, who then drove the British garrison out of the city. He referred to himself as Peshwa.
