To feed Italian soldiers, Europeans brought Asian cattle to Africa. Consequently, the cattle in Africa started getting diseased and ultimately died. This plague, named Rinderpest, spread in Africa like a forest fire. No one could find a cure for it, resulting in the death of 90% of cattle in Africa. This destroyed the whole economic system of Africa, which was based on cattle and land. Africans, whose occupation was to rear cattle, lost their cattle and job and ended up working in the mines and plantations of Europeans. This situation benefited Europeans in colonising Africa and its people. Through this, they started to get very cheap labour.
