Sri Lanka has witnessed a civil war. It ended in 2009. The civil war was a result of conflict between two major communities(Tamil-speaking and Sinhala-speaking communities) in Sri Lanka. The minority Tamils of Sri Lanka started political parties and campaigns for the recognition of Tamil as an official language, regional autonomy, and equitable access to education and employment. However, the majoritarian Sinhalese government turned down their persistent requests for greater autonomy for the Tamil-populated provinces. The conflict was not solved at the right time and turned violent.
