All the people inside the Chauri Chaura police station were killed when protesters attacked and fired in retaliation. Twenty-two police officers and three civilians were killed in the event. This incident directly led to Mahatma Gandhi, who was vehemently opposed to violence, stopping the Non-Cooperation Movement on February 12, 1922.
