The Frankfurt Parliament was an all-German National Assembly composed of middle-class professionals, businessmen, and prosperous artisans from various German regions. It was held on 18 May 1848 in the Church of St. Paul in Frankfurt. This assembly drafted a constitution for the German nation ruled by a monarchy subject to parliamentary oversight. The aristocracy and military, however, were opposed to this parliament. Furthermore, because it was dominated by the middle classes, it lost mass support. It was eventually forced to disband on 31 May 1849.
