Jamdani is a term used to describe a tightly knitted cloth on which decorative patterns are weaved on a loom. White and grey are frequently used as decorative colours. Typically, cotton and gold yarn are combined. Dhaka served as the primary hub for the production of textiles in the 18th century. Dhaka is renowned for its Jamdani and Mulmul weaving. The two most significant weaving centres were Dacca in Bengal and Lucknow in the Provinces. The East India Trading Company caught muslin manufacturers urging them to produce more for less profit, which led to the loss of the mills that once supplied good cotton for muslin from Dhaka. They withdraw into the shadows without anyone to look after the trees. Due to colonial import regulations favouring industrially manufactured textiles, the Bengali Jamdani and muslin industries suffered a rapid collapse during British colonisation.
