The Maasai people are an East African tribe. The Maasai are a historically pastoralist nomadic people from Kenya. Like other pastoralists in Africa, the Maasai have spent ages surviving by herding cattle, goats, and sheep, travelling hundreds of kilometres in search of water and grazing area for their herds. Soon after their grounds were taken over for the white settlement, the Maasai were forced into a limited area in north Tanzania and southern Kenya with unpredictable rainfall and poor lands. The colonial government turned large portions of their territory into reserved lands, and the pastoralists were forbidden from entering these reserves.
