The Constitution of India provides for a bicameral legislature at the central level, but it also provides for a bicameral parliament in states, however, only under certain circumstances. Thus, the Vidhan Sabha is also known as the lower house of parliament in states with a bicameral legislature. Presently, only six states in India have a bicameral legislature.
