Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
The members of a state assembly are called Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). MLAs are directly elected by the people of the state. The State Assembly is also known as the Vidhan Sabha. The Constitution of India provides for a bicameral legislature at the central level, but it also provides for a bicameral parliament in states, however, only under certain circumstances. Thus, the Vidhan Sabha is also known as the lower house of parliament in states with a bicameral legislature. Presently, only six states in India have a bicameral legislature. The upper house is known as the State Legislative Council or the Vidhan Parishad. The members of the Vidhan Parishad are known as Members of the Legislative Council (MLC).
