The above statement is true. The Bhopal Disaster, or Bhopal Gas Tragedy, is one of the world's deadliest and worst industrial disasters. An American company named Union Carbide had set up its factory in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. On December 2, 1984, about 45 tonnes of the dangerous gas methyl isocyanate escaped from an insecticide plant that was owned by the American firm Union Carbide Corporation. Within 3 days of the incident, 8,000 people were dead and some half a million survivors suffered eye irritation, respiratory problems, blindness, and other maladies resulting from exposure to the toxic gas.
