Rather than varna, jatis became the idea for organising society. New Rajput clans became influential among the Kshatriyas by the eleventh and twelfth centuries. They belonged to different lineages, like Hunas, Chandelas, Chalukyas, etc. Many social groups and tribes were assimilated into caste-based society and accorded the status of jatis. The tribal people got encouraged by the increase of Rajput clans to the position of rulers.
