Detailed Solution

The above statement is False.
The first Governor General of Bengal was Warren Hastings (1774–1785), who served as Bengal's final governor before taking office in 1774. In 1772, he did away with the dual system of government. Murshidabad's treasury department was transferred to Calcutta. Bengal's capital moved to Calcutta in 1772. He divided Bengal into districts and appointed British collectors and an Accountant General for each district. With changes to the East India Company's leadership, Hastings' reign of controlling Bengal came to an end in 1774. Hastings was in charge of solidifying British rule over the first significant province in India to be conquered.
The correct statement would be that the first Governor General of Bengal was Warren Hastings.
