Detailed Solution

This statement is true.
Though the Indian State follows the principle of secularism, the Indian notion of secularism is different from the Western concept. In general, secularism means the separation of religion from the State, the Indian concept of secularism talks about principled distance. It means that the Indian State can intervene in the affairs of a particular religion if it violates Fundamental Rights or if the religion promotes a practice which is considered a social evil. For instance, the Indian Constitution and even the Indian laws strictly prohibit the practice of untouchability. It is because the practice of untouchability is discriminatory against certain castes within the Hindu religion.
