The given statement is not valid. The government can not compel a person to pay taxes for the propagation of any particular religion or religious institution. This would go against the idea of Secularism inscribed in the Constitution of India and would be considered a breach of the Constitution. All the citizens of India are guaranteed the Freedom of Religion according to Articles 25 to 28 of the Indian Constitution. According to this right, India being a secular country, all the citizens can practise, propagate and profess the religion of their choice. This means that the government can compel no one to pay taxes for the maintenance or propagation of any religious institution or religion. For example- There may be citizens who don't practise any religion and thus may choose not to give tax. Similarly, some poor people may not afford to pay taxes for their faith. In all such cases, these citizens can never be forced by the government to attempt any act of paying taxes or propagation of their religion.
