Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
Black soil is of volcanic origin, formed by the weathering and disintegration of lava rocks. Black soil contains minerals like magnesium, lime, aluminium, and iron. The poor content of nitrogen, phosphorus, and organic matter is a characteristic of black soil. It can retain water and is suitable for cultivating sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, millets, and oilseeds. In India, the Deccan trap region of the peninsular plateau is where black soil is found. It includes the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and parts of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Gujarat, and Rajasthan. The valleys of peninsular rivers like Krishna, Godavari, Narmada, and Tapi have black soil.
