The given statement is true. This soil is deficient in organic matter and nitrogenous materials such as phosphorus, nitrogen, lime, and humus, making it less fertile but fairly rich in potash. It is also found in the parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic plains, and the piedmont zone of the Western Ghats. This soil is red due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks and the formation of iron oxides.
