The war became global in 1941 when Germany attacked Russia in June. In December that year, Japan launched a bombing attack on the US base at Pearl Harbor. This event facilitated the US entry into World War II. The war ended with Germany's defeat when the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima.
