Bankim Chandra Chatterjee's poem "Vande Mataram" was given a tune and sung by nationalists during the Swadeshi movement. Bharat Mata was created by Abanindranath Tagore, which instilled a sense of love and devotion to the country "Bharat". Nationalists travelled to various parts of the country, collecting folk tales and songs and compiling them. By 1921, Mahatma Gandhi had also created the Swaraj flag signifying the Gandhian ideal.
