She protested in India because the Indians were offended when they were removed from the Commission. The Congress Party decided to boycott the Commission during its session in Madras in 1927. The Muslim League led by MA Jinnah also boycotted it. A certain section of the members led by Muhammad Shafi supported the government. The Southern Justice Party decided to side with the government on this issue. When the Commission landed in February 1928, there were mass rallies, pro-democracy demonstrations, and black flag demonstrations across the country. People chanted the slogan, "Simon, Go Back ."The police resorted to Lathi's allegations to quell the movement. Even top leaders like Pandit Nehru were not spared. Lala Lajpat Rai, who was leading the protest against the Simon Commission, was accused of lathi atrocities in Lahore. He died later that year from injuries at the time. Dr. B R Ambedkar submitted a report on behalf of  Bahishkrit Hitakarini Sabha on the education of depression classes to the Bombay President.
