Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
Tipu Sultan and his father, Haider Ali, were powerful rulers of Mysore and strengthened their state militarily and economically. The profitable trade on the Malabar coast was under the control of Mysore. The company purchased pepper and cardamom from there. Tipu Sultan stopped every trade or export of pepper, sandalwood, and cardamom from his kingdom's port. He even stopped local merchants from trading with the British. He helped the French to grow and modernise their army in India because of their good relations. The British saw them as their powerful enemies who should be controlled. With Mysore, they fought four wars, and only in the last Battle of Seringapatam did they win.
