Detailed Solution

The above statement is True.
Malayalam was already widely spoken in present-day Kerala and the surrounding area when the Cheras came to power in the ninth century. The Chera emperors used it as the imperial language to write their inscriptions and official papers. This is how an ancient tongue developed alongside a new empire, becoming a recognised and significant aspect of the local culture and literature. Cheras made use of and developed Sanskritic doctrines as well. For instance, Kerala's temple theatre adapted epic tales from Sanskrit literature, and Sanskrit is a major influence on most Malayalam poetry. A reference to both can be found in the 14th-century work "Lilatilakam," which was written in the Manipravalam style.
