That made it feasible to manufacture stronger threads and yarn and increased productivity per worker, allowing each worker to produce more. Richard Arkwright afterwards built the cotton mill. Until then, cloth production was primarily within village houses and dispersed over the countryside. But now, the expensive new equipment could be bought, installed, and maintained at the mill. All the processes were centralised under one roof and administration within the mill. This made it possible to regulate labour, keep an eye on quality, and carefully monitor the production process—all things that had been challenging. In contrast, production took place in rural areas.
