Genes of color blindness are evidence of a genetic condition. Color blindness is caused by mutations in genes that control the development of photopigments, which are molecules in the eye that detect light and allow us to see different colors. The most common type of color blindness is inherited in an X-linked recessive pattern, which means that the gene responsible is located on the X chromosome and only one copy of the mutated gene is needed to cause the condition in males (females are usually carriers). Red-green color blindness is more prevalent in men since it is inherited via the X chromosome. This is due to the fact that males inherit just one X chromosome from their mothers.
