Detailed Solution

Parts of the transport system

The transport system in plants is not as complex as it is in animals.

Plants' transport system is made up of bundles of tubes in the stem, branches, and roots.

These tubes are referred to as xylem and phloem.

The primary role of the xylem is to transfer water and dissolved minerals from the roots to the rest of the plant.

The phloem, on the other hand, transfers the food produced in the leaves to all parts of the plant.

Older xylem tissues are not involved in transportation.
