Detailed Solution

The given statement is true.
According to the Plate tectonics theory, the crust (upper part) of the Earth has been formed out of seven major and some minor plates. The plate tectonics theory gives an idea about the formation of the different land and water bodies on the earth by the movement of the plates forming the Earth’s crust. According to this theory, there are seven major and a few minor plates making up the crust of the Earth. The crust is where we - humans, animals, plants, and other non-living objects - are found. These plates are not stationary. They are in constant motion, leading to different phenomena. When two plates move towards each other, the distance between the land masses is increasing and this is convergent or the folding movement. This results in the collision of two landmasses leading to upliftment and formation of fold mountains like the Himalayas. The divergent or the faulting movement results in the plates moving apart.
