From 1556 to 1605, Akbar, the third Mughal emperor, ruled. At the youthful age of barely 13, he succeeded Humayun as the emperor in the year 1556. He was taken care of by Bairam Khan, Humayun's dependable general who presided over the young Emperor till he reached adulthood. Hemu, a general of the Sur dynasty, was driven from Delhi by Akbar and Bairam Khan. On November 5, 1556, at the Second Combat of Panipat, Akbar engaged in his first battle with Hemu and beat him as well as the Sur army.
